EXPLORE

Niyama

Awarded #4 in Condé Nast Traveler Reader’s Choice Awards “Best Resorts in the World” category, and #2 in the “Top Resorts in the Indian Ocean” category, this resort is a must-see. Separated between two private islands, named Play and Chill, guests can hop back and forth exploring expanses of tropical foliage, swimming in the tranquil waters off the white sand beaches, sampling delicacies at one of the resort’s nine restaurants, or saying yes to extravagant treatments at the Drift Spa.
Families of all sizes will be pleased to have a wide selection of accommodations, the most popular being the Water Pool Villa, Two-Bedroom Beach Pool Pavilion, and Family Beach Pool Villa. Large groups can utilize The Crescent that offers luxury housing for up to 14 adults and eight children in five ultrachic villas, all with private pools. In addition, The Crescent features a private chef, two butlers, a housekeeper and complimentary activities, including a sunset cruise, private barbecue and movie under the stars, and island drumming night. Rooms in all areas of the resort include a king bed, full-size refrigerator and gourmet treats, and an entertainment system with a LED TV and Bose surround sound.

When it comes to activities, the options seem endless at Niyama, as they offer
world-class scuba diving and snorkeling day and night in an underwater playground, sunrise yoga, kids’ Zumba and an Explorers Kid Club, sunset Dhoni cruises, jet skis, and numerous other one-of-a-kind adventures. However, surfers may not be able to pull themselves away from the surf…

This renowned surfing destination is surrounded by uncrowded waves, including the longest right-handers in the Maldives and a surf point breaking directly onto the island. These waves are primarily suitable for intermediate to advanced surfers, but there are some spots ideal for beginner lessons.

The most acclaimed areas include Niyama’s Play Island, where surfers can ride a classic, powerful left hander, and Kasabu surf point at Kudahuvadhoo Corner that’s a rippable and hollow right-hander. During large swells, Hocus Pocus at Maeenboodhoo Corner offers a barreling right, and Vodi point at Niyama Corner provides a long left-hander.
